WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Our organization, Hope for Women and Children focuses on Women's Empowerment as they are the main pillars of the family. The status of women and girls in Sierra Leone is very low and they are deprived of the basic rights of dignity, nutritious food, education, right to expression etc. Therefore, our organization works for the upliftment and empowerment of women and girls in the rural communities across Sierra Leone.

Our programmed on women empowerment focuses on women's Health, female access to education, women's participation in governance and decision making and women's access to finance and economic opportunities. This programmed involves mobilizing and strengthening capacity of women and girls to demand their rights and improve their wellbeing in society. HWC-SL specifically provide trainings and coaching services on business management and facilitate linkage of individuals and businesses to financial institutions.

HWC-SL also improve capacities of institutions and duty barriers to appropriately respond to the needs of women and girls and strive for gender equality in service delivery. Our organization further intervene in providing innovative services such as establishment of Agro-processing Centers for Women to improve upon value addition and marketing of their businesses.

HOPE FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN HELD A MEETING WITH WOMEN'S AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS IN RURAL COMMUNITY.

On the 15th January 2021,Hope for Women and Children-Sierra Leone held a meeting with women's and community stakeholders in the rural community. The organization engaged the above community to explain to them about the mission and vision of the organization. During that meeting, the representatives from the organization asked about their felt needs and what were their immediate problems affecting them in their communities.

Almost all the women's hands were up to deliberate on issues disturbing them.

Among the attendees, a lady named Madam Josephine Kamara lamented that due to hunger and poverty had led most of these women not have enough food to eat and this generally can lead to sexual exploitation in their communities.

Another woman also expressed how most women sleep in darkness and on the ground, lack of shelter and communication especially those living in rural remote slumming areas or communities.

Another point raised is that, most of these women easily die from illness due to lack of money to pay their hospital bills and to get access to proper medication, they feel victims of circumstances.

The following were also raised by them.

No safe drinking water and care, especially those living slumming areas or in the remote communities in the rural areas.

No security

Having expressed their problems they were facing the finally concluded that, the Hope for Women and Children-Sierra Leone would come to their aid to remedy such situation they are facing. The also pleaded with the organization to talk to other Humanitarian organizations to come to their aid as they were vulnerable. HWC-SL is kindly asking international NGOs and other Humanitarian partners to help so that they can reduce suffering of these communities.

On the 20th September, 2021, Hope for Women and Children-Sierra Leone aims at providing support for both vulnerable women and children for sustainable development in the rural communities across Sierra Leone. It mission is to change the lives of vulnerable women and children in the remote rural communities. Captured Photo is one of the moves made by Hope for Women and Children in a rural community in the mokobo village, moyamba District.

Hope for Women and Children- Sierra Leone engaged some drop-out women in the preparation of cakes.it is a self-reliance skill training done by Hope for Women and Children. Our organization has emerged on these training since 2021 in order to remedy the problems of poverty, early pregnancy and early marriage within the women.

Hope for Women and Children in a local Non-government organization that gears towards development. Our organization is the sole sponsor to this project of cakes making. Our organization found it very difficult to complete this project as it faces a lot of constraints in terms of finance. The challenges were too much but we

were able to conclude the project with certification to all participants. After the certification, our organization also assist all participants with attachments to some Hotels and Restaurants in the urban communities.

SHOE MAKING WORKSHOP SPONSORED BY HOPE FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

On the 12th October,2021, Hope for Women and Children also embarked in sponsoring a Shoe making workshop in the rural area kayamba chiefdom, moyamba District. The woman are skilled in making Shoes with bare-hands. Our organization therefore, came to their rescue in providing logistics for them to push their talents.

Hope for Women and Children has supported over one hundred and fifty (150) women to create businesses that lift their families out of poverty in their communities in Sierra Leone.

On the 16th October, 2022, Our organization also embark in the training of women in the processing of birthday cakes which is also one of the most expensive skill training experienced by our organization. These women above are orphan who has lost their two parents some years ago as a result of the outbreak of Ebola and COVID-19 in Sierra Leone.

Our organization embark in the integration process of these women into the society by engaging them in skill training for them to become self-reliance in the society. The organization found it very challenging in terms of finance, but at the end of the day, we were able to conclude the project with certification and assistance for employment.

Our organization also embark in the training of women in Tailoring. The photo above showed a first year student in tailoring. She dropped out of school some years back and our organization came across her and involved her tailoring. The sewing machine was provided for her by our organization after the course.

These women had been trained in different fields and had showed case during the practical before the staff of the organization. During the practical, various stakeholders from various organization were invited to witness and assess the hand work of these women. At the end of practical, the most skilled woman were graded accordingly and certificates were issued to all participants. Our organization also assist participants for employment. This training is also done in rural areas in Moyamba District.
